Let's be clear -- PCGS deems it "market acceptable" not "naturally toned". As has been beat into the ground in many threads here, there is really no concept of "naturally toned" because the definition of "naturally" is subjective. Often it implies intent, which cannot be known. I don't personally think it's much of anything special for the price that it has been bid up to so far. But, it does have the "magical" trifecta of color, PCGS, and a green bean. Some people just eat that up...
"Market acceptable" for their market in their plastic. Their market has their permission to bid on it. That's all that means.
It is an amazing coin, and one that I would love to own. Nevertheless, I wouldn't have paid the ridiculous closing price ($1,705 with juice).
The coin is an untoned $20. Since it is so easy to at and then slab would someone cook me up one like this ill pay a couple hundred per coin slabbed.
This one is even crazier. 1970-d kennedy with light golden toning goes for over $600. http://www.greatcollections.com/Coin/271768/1970-D-Kennedy-Half-Dollar-PCGS-MS-66-Toned
I knew you had been looking for a nicely toned 70 D. MS66's go for around $300. I thought this would bring a small premium, but not double price.
oh ok, didnt know 66's were worth that much. I dont pay any attention to grades of coins, all I care about is eye appeal.
Im at $1200 so far, Im hoping I start losing some auctions so I dont have too high of an invoice. I have a $630 bid on a Morgan alone Im hoping to lose.
It screams AT to me. Looks like it was recently done, like you see with ASEs some times. I wouldn't even want to own it for 50 dollars. I don't want to enrich coin doctors who only add triviality to our hobby
It is quite simple; stop bidding against me. I was hoping to win the coin in the OP and a few others. Even when placing what I considered nuclear bids, I still lost. I wish people would bid my coins up like that.
