I found this metal detecting today and I'm curious how these bubbles got in a solid silver coin. It looks like there are fractures on the surface of the bubbles. Weird. any thoughts?

This coin isn't terrible condition I can't even get a date off of it IMG_20230227_195131233.jpg

Looks to have been in a fire at one point.

That's what a silver quarter looks like cooked by a blow torch! Heated until red hot and improperly cooled.

Just curious. Thanks for the reply. I'll just throw it in the jar with the rest of them

Looks like a silver-plated counterfeit. The corroding copper core is blistering through the silver plate.

I'd cut that one in half and check for solid silver.
Then into the scrap silver container.

Where was it found? If in a large clearing, then most likely it was thrown, dropped, into a fire and allowed to heat to a high enough temperature to cause the damage. It reminds me of pictures of coins found after the Paradise fire in California.

I found it between the street and sidewalk in Huntington West Virginia. Fairly Old Town

Either heat or exposed to some type of construction equipment. We too find a lot in the grassy sidewalk patches...

The eagle looks like it's trying to find a way out of the fire, poor thing.
