I am fairly sure this is an N-33 which is an R-4 or 4+ I believe in latest Copper Quotes. Anyone that has a current copy that can confirm the R# and also approximate value for a vf 30 or so. I have been looking for this publication but so far it seems to be sold out. Thanks for any help. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1851-BRAIDE...EMB%2FZREl4NYyLNa8E4s%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
If it is this variety, then yes it would be an R-4. Your pic from the ebay site it not sharp enough to make out the extra 1 below the top one.
I looked at the pic and I think the repunching is supposedto be on the left side of the 1. yours looks like its on the right.
I think N33 seems reasonable, although I would attribute in hand before I confirmed. The N33 is listed as R4 with avg 30 at $125, about a 50% premium over common coins. However, your coin is not an average 30, I would call it that a 25 net 15 for the rim ding, so ave-, and put the price around $30. Keep in mind that with these near rare varieties the price drops dramatically, vf30 avg is 125, vf20 average is 50. Here is Hanh's Grellman graded vf 25 51N33 for grading comparision. http://early-copper.com/coinpics/td_1851n33.jpg 51s can be hard to grade, especially with the mushy die steel they used in the later half of the late date dies.
are you talking about below the first 1? Looks like its on the left to me. On the reverse it has som lines going both sideways and vertical between E and N in cent.
thanks for your replies. I think I paid around 21 or so for this one so thats in the ballpark. A shame about the rim hit.
