Made this one myself today. I have a few others that I've gotten. I never concidered myself as a collector of them until today when I saw the machine and had to have one.
There are many collectors of Elongated coins... for example, a few dedicated sites: TECNews.org PennyCollector.com PressedPenny.com
I always make a few every time I see a machine. One I keep and one I always send to a collector I know who is no longer able to travel so much anymore, so his ability to collect them is limited.
Don't actually collect them, but I sometimes waste some money on making one. This one I got in Ingelheim (near the Rhine river) two weeks ago; shows an imperial palace from the 8th/9th century. Problem is that around here the typical "investment" is €1.05: 1 euro for the machine, and 5 cent for the piece that you get back squished. So once in a while, if I am in the mood and like the design, I will get one of those ... Christian
check this out you'll see some neat stuff https://www.cointalk.com/threads/lets-see-your-exonumia.203005/
I don't collect them but my Grandson is into trains and super heroes like Batman and Spiderman so I have bought several for him. He's three and for the price (around a buck) he can play with them or loose them and no big loss, but they may get him interested in collecting as he gets older.
Oded Paz collects them. He is a member of this forum and a candidate for ANA governor. Message him any questions.
I have one from the World's Columbian Exposition for 1892, as well as Theodore Roosevelt and Alton Parker For President from the Election of 1904. Elongated coins are very cool and reasonably priced.
My sister gets one whenever she sees them. She loves them. They are neat mementos of our travels, but I wouldn't say we "collect" them.
I didn't know that they had those there. I've been a couple times to watch the shuttles launch. Have a good friend and classmate that works there, will have to get her to send me one.
