IYO, what are the best coins buy in the $500-$1k range?

    1909S VDB but that's because that's what I would buy. Everyone made good suggestions. If you're buying to keep then get what you would look at over and over, but you are looking to flip check auction results and demand then go from there.

    1798 Large Cents, Classic Large Cents, 20 Cent pieces, 1832-35 Half Cents, 1857 Half Cents and Large Cents

    Buy what you like. In the under-$1k range, there is a nearly unlimited amount of things that you can buy. Figure out what makes you happy, and buy that.

    If you're looking for an investment of some type for coins between $500-1000 you're in a crap shoot. Personally, investing that type of cash I would only be after key date coins with proven records. 1909 S VDBs, 1916 D 10c, 1885, 1886 5c, etc. For myself, I'm never looking to spend a set amount on coins unless it is for an investment, if it is for my collection all criteria change.
