Hi going through my pennies and came across this nice penny. It does appear it might have MAD going on. Is this good enough for a collection piece? 1986 penny observe.jpg 1986 penny reverse.jpg

The wonderful thing about this hobby is that you get to choose what you would like to save and what you would like to return to the wild.

    • Here's some advice given to me by another fellow coin enthusiast: collect what you want but draw a comfortable line somewhere, between 'collector' and 'hoarder'.

My line has shifted over time, from hoarder towards collector. I'm saving less and returning more these days. But don't look under my hobby desk. You might call me a liar!!

    Happy hunting!!

It’s a slight MAD but you can see the ridge ring so it was minted by a worn die. Not worth grading but it would make a nice addition to a set.

Thank you I am going to have to read up on ridge ring vs MAD. There is a lot to learn about coins.

Thanks I am keeping this since it is the best one I have for that year. I guess you can call me a hoarder also I have a ton of pennies I need to start putting in my spend pile.

You a hoarder? Say it ain’t so. Lol. Did you ever read that smaller black print under my CT name? It’s so true.

Basically a MAD is the rim is close to non existent on one edge and opposite it the rim is wide.
A ridge ring looks like it has a second rim on it.
    Both are common.

Mountain Man is correct, when you post something like this many more than just you benefit from the answers given.

Now Collecting Nut only being a borderline hoarder is a whole new issue.
