I picked this up a couple of shows ago due to the fantastic in hand eye appeal with slight rim toning. It seems as though the more I look at it, the more I like it. The fields are extremely clean with an amazing amount of luster. What do you guys think it would grade? Worth grading?
How much would it cost to send it in to be graded? Then figure out how much it could be worth. Unless you like it a lot then do it.
It looks beautiful, but you must add up all the costs associated with the original purchase price and a submission and figure out what you need to receive in terms of grade to know if it will make any real money for you.
I have been thinking about this. It would need to grade a 67RD for me to been in the black. I don't feel as thought the RD designation would be difficult to obtain for this coin; however, the 67 part is where I am on the fence. The mark on Lincoln's forehead is my only real concern. If anything were to pull it lower than a 67, I would chalk it up to that. My other thought is because it is not a very noticeable flaw(in hand) the luster and toning may cause them to give it more of a market grade, AKA, 67...? Thoughts?
I see a 65 or maybe a 66. If you are lucky and get that 66, it will go for about $30. By the time you pay for shipping both way plus their grading, I seriously doubt you could grade it for less than $30.
I think you are at least at an MS66RD with the coin, but the shallow nick on the forehead is the first thing that I noticed and it might be the first thing that a grader notices, too. By the way, I think it is beautiful, nonetheless.
The obverse looks every bit MS, while the reverse doesn't look as sharp. Ah, that's probably just the picture of the reverse, and I'm seeing things, again. I don't think it would be economical to plastic it. Some of those graders I understand make six-figure salaries, and they charge like it. If it's MS, it's at least a strong gem, in these eyes, and very appealing.
Financially, no. To check your grading skills? Maybe. Why would you want to have it slabbed in the first place?
Looks like an attractive coin, but it is not worth the cost/fees/shipping/insurance etc. Enjoy it as it is.
