    Hi coinfriends,

    I think these coins are struck, but you dont see same edge. as on a Hadrian Denarius.
    also no plitt edges.

    can anyone tell more about this?

    KINGS of MACEDONIA. Antigonos II Gonatas. 277/6-239 BC. AR Tetradrachm Amphipolis mint.
    Struck circa 274/1-260/55 BC.

    Touratsoglou 8–17; SNG München 1074-5; SNG Alpha Bank 983; SNG Cop. 1202

    Obv.
    Horned head of Pan left, lagobolon behind, in the center of a Macedonian shield

    Rev. ANTIGONOU left, BASILEWS right
    Athena Alkidemos advancing left; crested Macedonian helmet to inner left, TI to inner right.

    The only thing I can tell Oki, is that ever since Steve got his a couple of years ago, I have wanted one. Yours is a beautiful example.

    The obverse die is cup shaped and more than usual care was made to strike these carefully and on center. Yours is a mite off center leaving a rim at the bottom. Another issue using this technique was the common Macedon under Rome that several of us have.

    I have no explanation why this technique did not catch on widely other than it was too much work????

    hmm interesting Doug,
    at 1 o'clock its thick and 7 o'clock thin.
    maybe that was the trick cupshape so its well centered

    Great addition, Oki ... yummy-yummy, my friend (yah, I love the symmetry of these babies!!)

    => I definitely want to score the coin-type that Doug posted (I've bid on them a lot of times, but have never sealed the deal!!)
