Weird. I don't know how they did that, but by the looks of it I'm pretty sure it isn't an error. Still, a pretty neat coin. Wonder what the obverse look like.

Look at the sellers feedback, that tells all! Not trustworthy!

A buffing wheel, using various grit compounds is my guess.

Take a look at his previous offerings. The coppers are full red like they were just struck. I think this guy should find a job in the cleaning business.

Um, well at least he provides an honest picture, lol, and does describe it as "clean"... an admission of a kind...

Checked his feedback, he may not be pretending when he claimed to not know English, his auctions do seem to demonstrate a lack of command of the language to a degree.

Could be honest ignorance. I looked at his other auctions, they're honestly described kind of, but all junk basically. Maybe he honestly believes accelerated wear is an error.

Just like he probably thinks this an error, lol... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270107083869 Sent him a message to try to educate him.

Liar or idiot? Or both? You decide.

I asked the seller of the quarter what mixtures he used to alter the coin and he replied with some 4-letter words and claims he found it at work. The auction ended at $39.51 but I also think this seller is a shill bidder. Look at the bid history and then the user kamrann2007. Interestingly you will see the lone feedbacker of this user is the seller of the quarter as well!

I have a "tumbler" that uses chopped up corn cob to shine up empty brass bullet cases. That's what looks like happened to the Ohio State Quarter.

I'd say sandblasted or sand washed but the details in the center of the coin are not as diminished. In any case, worthless junk.
