Here's a sad coin...

This poor 2 Cent piece has been through the ringer. The sin of it is that, under the horrible surface, it has VF20 details. Thought you guys might want to see this. We're listing it tonight on eBay with the title "What not to do to a 2 Cent Piece Coin". The first person that had it tried to clean it (I don't know what they used); the second person boiled the poor thing in lemon juice and ammonia. Still don't know what he was trying to accomplish.

Anybody ever thought about starting a used and abused collection?

If anybody wanted to, this would be a great coin to start with :D

This looks like a good coin to conduct experimental copper treatments against...

What amazes me is that anyone would have messed with the coin in the first place. Even with the deposits, I'll bet the details still showed through. They sure don't now.

I have seen so many abused coins over the years, that I often wonder what gets in the minds of people. We use many of these poor little coins as educational props. No coin is worthless. It just needs someone to love it :D

You'll love the way the auction is worded when I list it. We're starting it at 99 cents and asking someone to give it a good home and a quiet retirement. I think I might have been getting a little punchy when I did that auction. :)

I'm not sure I've ever seen a "VF details, net AG-3" coin before. :)

For anyone who is interested in seeing the auction, I posted the link under my More Coins thread in the Auctions section.

By the way I really like the toned Morgan (I can't read the date), posted by Tallpaul000.

I had the worlds ugliest type set for a while. I carried it with me to shows, always looking to downgrade it hehe.

Do you still have it - this would make a great addition. :D

No somehow I let it get away. I think the 2 cent piece was barely indentifiable, due to heavy wear.
That was a fun set, though. Other dealers would "check in" with me at shows to see how far south my set had gone since they'd last seen me lol.
Bill Fivaz had a similar set and we joked about it a lot.

Sorry for the edit, but some may feel offended by that.
