lot of you have argued time and time again that the price guides are unreasonable. the coin dealers try to hype their goods by saying "trends at." which basically is the same as saying what the price guide lists it at. do you wish the ebay sellers would stop saying this b--sh-- phrase?
What you are forgetting, or perhaps didn't know, is that "Trends" was a well established price guide put out by Coin World, which has now changed it's name to Coin Values. There's no such thing as "the" price guide - a dozen different ones are listed at one website, and many more are not listed there. Referring to one specific guide out of the myriad available hardly qualifies as a bovine excrement phrase, even if the reference is to a former name that is probably better known in the numismatic community than the new name.
Doesn't bother me - since I know those values or prices are high. Still, a lot people, expect to get these super rare key date million dollar coins for a few bucks. So who is really at fault - the unknowing buyer or the seller?
I always chuckle when I see that statement, "this coin trends at". Another one I like is "graded ms 67" or 'graded ms 66" and the pic shows a coin in a coinword holder. A lot of people are jumping on the sgs bandwagon. example example 2
What should be excised from eBay listings, but won't be, is the phrase "MS-99 trends at $1 zillion!" when the item for bid is in "NG-0" condition. Yes, if it were in MS-99, it might go for $1 zillion, but this one isn't in MS-99, so why bring it up... ??? ...never mind, I answered my own question...
I actually am tired of seeing such phrases. I think ebay should be doing a better job of policing their site. they take off a spoof that one of the members here put out there and let these obvious ripoff artist take advantage of people who don't know any better. I have complained to the ANA numerous times and have turned in a few "sellers" that advertise that they are ANA members. Nothing happens. Its certainly a buyer beware out there. In the case of the ABC slabs. I hold the same feeling. How can they advertise a MS67 coin that Trends for... $XXXX. They should preface it with. a PCGS or NGC coin graded MS67 Trends for $1600, Sells for $1200 and this one is really worth $85.00 or something to that effect. It really is aggravating weeding through the garbage out there to get to the real deals. This Washington Sunoco Coin fiasco is turning me off to ebay. What a bunch of thieves. Just my opinion..
