This NGC slabbed error is NOT mine! But I wish I could own it for just a nice price of $7,250 & free S/H - I have seen it before and now it's up for sale. I think is simply amazing! Did a spring pop out of a machine near the Nickel press and land in between the planchet and the hammer die.. or could it of been deliberately placed there? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1964-Jeffer...GC-MS64-/400902934311?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276
There's at least one other 1964 nickel with a struck-in spring, which makes me suspect there was human assistance.
Is that actually real? I mean, if so, talk about a retained strike through! As to whether it was deliberately made or not, these would be around the era where such curiosities as a 1970-S proof quarter overstruck on a 1900 Barber quarter were created. I don't think anyone could get away with deliberately producing nonstandard coins at the Mint today.
NE has had this in their inventory for a long time. I believe it was originally priced at $10,000. Still seems substantially overpriced to me, but who knows?!?!
Mike, if I am not mistaken Fred has one of these? It was in Errorscope not that long ago if I remember correctly.
Mike - no need for an XRF analysis verification on this nickel! WOW! LOL! John Lorenzo Numismatist United States
