Hello everyone! This one is another of my sets that are in process, the Kennedy Half Dollar series. For now the coins rest in this album, but in January 2015 i changed to an album Dansco 1964 to present. The set its completed in a 50 %, 1964 - 1987.
Beautiful set! I'm working on one myself, except mine is P&D only, 1964-present. Only 20 coins left to go.
I have a few whitmans filled up from CRH....the hardest to fill is the 70D, had to buy those as I have never found one in the wild....that and 2014's....the reast, I have found. I number my sets, 1-7 with #1 being the best quality...#2 next and so on....it has been fun and working on #8 now..
Very nice start @Seba79. I'm not sure that most people realize that this is set is fairly challenging. The series has gone on now for half a century, and has a few pieces that are difficult in high grades.
1964-1995 had the "Larger Bust". (1991 saw the introduction of the spaghetti hair.) 1995 (corrected from 1996) saw a reduction in size and 2000 saw a further reduction. 2014 got a "re-introduction" to the original bust size but only for special collector coins.
In 1983 the mint changed his hair from Mrs. Kennedy's suggestion, which originally Gilroy Roberts followed. I doubt if GR was involved with the 1983 change.
I'm not sure why you want to put the collection in a Dansco album. The Littleton album has the large rings that allow the pages to lie flat. The smaller Dansco albums are fine for that - two or three pages, but when you get to the big date sets, like Kennedy's, not so much...
I've never heard anything regarding the 1983 Kennedy Half Dollar Design which had little if any changes at all from its 1982 version. A comparison of TrueView Images shows that the part may have had some adjustments made but, again, no mention of Jackie Kennedy in this decision that I've ever heard. Can you provide some numismatic documentation reference? "Rumor" says something about 1964 (Accented Hair or 1st Obverse Die Variety)although it has never been documented as valid. As such, it is just one of those lingering rumors.
I didn't mean to criticize. The Dansco albums are certainly beautiful. I don't collect many moderns any more, but I still love the Kennedy's - one of the nicest US coins ever, and so much variety in the series. To the OP: lovely set!
The current album its damaged in one of his pages, the coins are not kept in his place, and there exists risk that they are damaged, for this motive i change the album.
19Lyds -- I think you misunderstood me. The original (1964 and 2014 clones) design as designed by Roberts did follow Jackies suggestion, and mussed up the part. In 1983 the mint returned to the design Roberts made which Jackie did not approve of (and hence it was shelved, until 1983). I have no idea who changed the 1964 design to the neat part from 1983 onwards. As I said I doubt if Roberts had anything to do with it, and certainly not Jackie. Gary
I'm with you, I like the "Dansco" name better then I do Littleton, so I will typically buy Dansco Albums when I need them but I must agree, that is the one flaw on those albums.
