Hello, im new to the site and just want some thoughts on my recent purchase. I enjoy old US mint bags and came upon this one. I have never seen one like it and was wondering if anyone knows anything about it and if someone could tell me what the GMB stands for. Thanks.

It was probably stamped by the bank that received it.

I didn't think anyone saved them......old or new!

It could be Germantown Bank, but that's a total guess, probably incorrect.

Another Philadelphia financial institution went into the history books yesterday, as Germantown Savings Bank was formally merged into CoreStates
Financial Corp. for about $260 million in cash and stock.

The deal's closing ends a process that began more than a year ago, when GSB
put itself up for sale to the highest bidder. Although it was financially healthy, the 140-year-old savings bank faced stiffening competition from still-growing giant regional banks such as CoreStates, Mellon, First Fidelity and PNC.

Perhaps GSB would have designated the bank mentioned, but maybe originally it was set up as GMB. Of course I may just be piling on to my original mistake.

Thanks for the responses. I just thought this bag was strange. There is no denomination stamped on it and it has what I would call reinforced stitching. How would anyone know what is in it?

Not that I have seen a lot of them, but the stitching appears to be representative of an older bag. How old, I don't know.

Anybody here have any Morgan or Peace dollar bags? I was fortunate enough to have found one bag from New Orleans, (& one from CC! But couldn't afford it) but would sure like a few more!
