The U.S. gold coins certainly capture peoples attention, personally I think their demand will increase. Alright, like a true coin collector I went on Ebay and bought an 1870-s gold dollar, MS 62. Mintage 3,000 and less than 200 have been graded. To sum things up, now I'm broke.
The problem with coins like the gold dollar listed above is that folks rarely collect these by date/mintmark. Rather, they are purchased generally for type purposes and this keeps pressure way down.
Good post. Morgan's are beautiful but I always pass by them at the shows. I never quite understood why the Morgan CCs go for so much but the Double Eagle CCs that are an oz of AU aren't quite as sought after. I guess it's the AW-catching of the Morgan Dollar. My Daughter's name is Morgan too
Any more details on the Persian Coin? I would like to see a picture. The great thing about the "Ancients" is that people world wide collect them.
Its demand for sure.Want proof , look at low mintages of Newfoundland coins. Alot of coins that have mintages onlyin the the tens of thousands, yet can be bought for a few dollars in low grade.
There are so many stunning coins that the general public doesn't know about. Somethings just take time. The Internet age is about twenty years old now. Some people are just learning about what exists out there. I showed someone I work with a picture of an Attica Tetradrachm. They were shocked that anything like this existed. They couldn't believe it was only $800.00 They don't own coins but now seem interested.
