Because of the weakness of the strike on the reverse oposite of the missing layer I'm pretty sure it was missing before the strike.
Edit: never mind Ziggy,I just saw your latest post.

Thank you so much for the information.

I NEVER liked coins til NOW!

I've been going through my change jars all weekend and am having so much for doing it!

    So far I found:

    1884 penny
1944 mercury dime (no mint mark)
    1924 bison nickel

I'm sure their not worth much, but it's fun going through and seeing what you have...

    Again,
    Thanks for the help. :)

Hello! Do you still have the Arches quarter with partial copper on the obverse. I recently joined cointalk, and I am interested in puchasing this coin if you are interested in selling it.

Since you're new, you probably don't know that any discussions on purchases need to be done privately through messaging. Best wishes.

I read the "terms and conditions" earlier, but I just saw the "rules" so I will be more careful.

No worries and I'm not a moderator so don't think I hold any authority on here, I just wanted to help you out.

I'm not even a coin collector. I got it when I was at the car wash. I put $5.00 in and that was one of the quarters that came out. I knew there was something different about it so I decided to not put it the car wash machine. haha

Very awesome find. I've been searching my change as a collector and have never come across such an interesting error. I've found a few silver coins in change (pre 1965 coins) and an 1863 cent in a cent roll, things like that. Once you get the coin addiction, it most likely won't end! I'd suggest getting a good beginner book, something at Barnes that you can look at or online. The Red Book price guide is a must too. My last suggestion is what another said: put it up on ebay and let the collectors have at it. You don't need to have it graded professionally; this helps but ebay auctions with good pics, descriptions, etc should suffice. If you take it to a shop, you'll get lowballed. Have fun!

    Is that the OP's coin?

Yep. Look at the 3rd auction picture. Appears in this thread from @torontokuba I think without going back.

edit - I wonder what OP got from arrowcoin if he sold directly to him? I'll guess $100.
