I'm not looking to slab any coins just yet. I can't believe how expensive it is. But I would like to do two things: properly store bulk coin and second put together some sets for display. Any suggestions on what products best serve these purposes?
For bulk coins, you can use these plastic coin tubes. For display, you have a wide variety of choices (too many to list): albums of all types, Air-tites and their corresponding albums, Coin World "slab" holders (these should fit in the Eagle certified coin albums IIRC), Capital Plastics holders. The one thing you need to make sure of is that the method you choose is archival. That is, it won't harm your coins. To that end, stay away from PVC or cardboard. PVC damages coins, and cardboard will likely induce toning. What size and type of collection are you looking to store/display?
Thank you for the information. I am currently taking inventory of my father's "collection." It is in quotes because he only put together three preprinted blue boards (quarter's, half dollars and dimes--only focusing on year sequence) and the rest was either paper rolled or left loose in bags or cans. Sooooo, I am looking forward to cherry picking Peace, Morgan dollars; walking liberty half dollars, silver Washington quarters, silver Kennedy dimes and Indian head pennies. Since nothing was properly archived and he wasn't a discerning collector, I don't have a lot of hope for "shiny" sets, but want to preserve what I can for posterity. I'm still aways out on a full inventory, but a cursory glance has not turned up anything terribly rare or in demand. I will likely use the bulk, as you all have been suggesting here, to slowly replace and improve the sets, or begin new ones.
I recommend airtites. There are many ways to display them. It really depends on what you want to spend.
The Wizard's supply looks great. Thank you for the information. I have some bank notes too that I'll be getting protection for. I'll look into airtites too. Thank you all for the info.
I have a few mahogany display boxes that display some of my coins. I pulled the plastic inserts out of the drawers because they were for small "raw" coins and placed some of my less expensive holdered coins in the case. It looks pretty good.
