Hello. The poor condition of this bronze coin representing Emperor Constantine did not refrain me to post it, due to its historic significance rather than value. The Christian sign is clear on the left field of reverse. I can also read there " VIRTUSE ". Then the letter X shows up to the right of reverse. The mint mark is CONSB. The coin weighs 4.18 g. I enjoy reading your comments.
I believe this is Valentinian II but it is certainly not Constantine. The reverse type was not used until later.
You're perfectly right. Valentinian II- RIC 83 a. MM: CONSB ( Constantinople ). Note though that RIC lists this coin as AE3 whereas my coin weighs 4.18 g.. It also refers to a cross on the left field of reverse, whereas mine has the letter P ( Rho ) which is crossed in the middle. But as you said the reverse type of mine was not used until later.
