Early Jewish shekel? Real or fake?

    Any educated guesses on this piece? It is seriously thick and looks like it is comprised of two coins soddered together. It does not look legitimate but I want to make sure with you folks if thats okay.

    Have to agree. Its weird they would make this fake so thick when the originals are thin. Its usually the other way around.

    I don't think it was meant to deceive - I think it's a tourist bauble. When I was in the Czech Republic a few years ago, the touristy joints all had thick pewter versions of those paper-thin, milled medieval silvers. There was no way you could mistake them for the flimsy and fragile originals. It's probably a way of differentiating them as replicas and making them more durable.
