I got my copy (reprint) of United States Copper Cents, 1816-1857 by Howard Newcomb with an introduction by George Clapp. I'm mainly interested in the Braided Hair series (1839-1857). I've got the full set of Red Book listed dates/varieties. Now, together with Grellman's book, I should be able to assign a Newcomb number to what I've got and consider getting the varieties that I don't have.
Congrats! I have both books as well. It takes practice, but it's a lot of fun to positively attribute the copper you own.
Isn't Newcomb amazing as a piece of work, written in hand! I found grellman much easier to work with, but newcomb is worth picking if you like the series.
