Hey all... I have 6 1972 LMC DDO here that I'm trying to correctly attribute...I've got my "answers" - just wanting others to chime in and either confirm or correct them. Due to photo limitations (10 per post) I'll have to split them up into three separate replies. Sorry! #1 #2
Yeah, there's a fine line between too much light and not enough to see any details. What I get for not having a USB microscope...
With that much glare it's really tough because I can't pick up markers in the fields, but it looks like an LDS version of 008. Some nice finds.
Now I see! I didn't glance at the others; I just thought you had come across a good OBW roll that had yielded several examples of the same die.
It's tough. With the glare I just can't get a crisp enough look at the devices to tell if they are 003 or 008. I don't think any are 006, but on the photos of #4 & #5, I'm not seeing the strong doubling at the bottom of the L in LIBERTY, but I'm thinking it's just the lighting. Here's a good side x side comparison of dies 3 & 8- http://www.lincolncentforum.com/forum/showthread.php?20069-1972-DDOs-003-amp-008-comparison
I have the coins in hand...and it's still tough. I've been checking out John Wexler's site for diagnostics and even then still waver back and forth...
Larry - all my lights have diffusion on them. Just not getting them in the right spots. I'm thinking maybe I'll switch to the LED flash ring and see how that goes.
They all came from the same consignor. Here are some new shots of the obverses, in order from 1-6. Looking at them already I can tell they might not be that much help:
Some more shots of #1. Not getting the right angle for the lights. Sorry...it's just as frustrating for me. Once I find it I'll post some more pics. Maybe I'll get nominated for "thread with a bazillion photos":
Yep. Die #8. Look at the doubling on the vest, the date, and compare the die flow lines around the date to the photo of the LDS example on Coppercoins.com
