While roll hunting over the last few years, I have acquired quite a few clad proof half dollars. Most have a haze on them. Would acetone work on this? Is there a dip for clad coins? I was thinking of keeping one of each year and don't want to damage them more by wiping the haze of. Any thoughts. Thanks.
Ok, ive been told here that e-zest and/or jewel luster works. I actually did an acetone dip then stuck one in that walmart gold jewelry cleaner and it worked on a 40% SMS kennedy. The acetone didnt touch it but a CONTROLLED quick dip in the jewelry cleaner worked, the coin was cameo too and didnt take the frost/luster off the coin. Just dipped it about 5-10 mins each time and each trip/dip made it look better and better.
I know, and theres a surefire way to find out.....idk if there would b a (preferred) dip out there for clad coins but if what i suggested works on a silver clad i dont see why it wouldnt work for you. Its the same haze just a lil different composition for the coins, with a 40% kennedy having copper nickel in it just like your coin. Then again i could be totally wrong but id just take the worst looking one and use it as the guinea pig.
What i was thinking, let us know because someone else might have the same question you have plus id like to know for future reference anyway. Before and after photos would becool. To showcase your findings.
Oh and 1 more thing, idk how much time u have on your hands to do this but if u have a quite a few of these it would be neat to try household items too like vinegar(works on pennies) or whatever else you can think of detergent/water or peroxide maybe and see which turns out the best. This might could be the dumbest or smartest idea ive ever had I guess it just depends on the results of your research. Sorry for turning this into a science experiment as i know you came here to get tje quick and easy answer lol
E-Zest quick dip(plastic tongs to hold the coin, or, plastic strainer with plastic mesh), warm water rinse, Distilled water rinse and lint-free cloth pressed lightly..NO rubbing...some use a hair dryer for final step. I only use acetone on Clad coins like IKES, and soft q-Tip, carefully, so no hairlines added. I learned the hard way Q-Tips can ruin a proof coin in seconds...no matter how careful I was, hairlines were made, and made me sick...
I asked about this at my LCS. The person I asked suggested a dip in ammonia. Any thoughts? I found some at the drug store but it has dye and sent in it. I want to find some without the additives.
The after photos. Just a dip in the ammonia, for a few seconds, followed by a dip in clean water. Pat on a paper towel to dry.
Looks like a considerable/noticeable difference... Fresh off new dies almost if u will...good job my man....was wondering if.u ever tried anything 4 that because I oddly eniugh am learning this trick myself... thx for posting!
