12 days from Holland

My coin arrived today 12 days after I ordered it from a vCoins dealer in Holland. It came in a small padded mailer without insurance and had been cut open and resealed with green US Customs tape. I suspect they were disappointed when they saw it. Even including International postage it cost $16 less than the one I got from North Carolina last week but it is about that much less coin due to wear but I like the surfaces better. The trees are similar but not exact matches. Now I have a Constans (previously shown) and this Constantius II hut from Alexandria leaving me short only an Arles for a set of trees from the 13 mints. When I get it, I'll update my page on the huts.

A very nice coin in that unique Alexandrian style that can't be mistaken for anything else. My packages from the Middle East are almost always opened and resealed. I can't imagine how many customs officials I've disappointed with my ratty Nabataeans, lol.

 

i don't buy from overseas much, but i have yet to have a packaged opened by customs that i know of (didn't know about the tape).

i recently recieved two coins from holland myself, but only 7 days! i'll post them tomorrow.

i think the weakening euro has kind of help with some of the prices from some european sellers, the price of my coins was very reasonable as well.

Holland is not a country its a province in The Netherlands.

The reason is from trading started from holland around the world

 

Strictly speaking, yes. But Americans use the word Holland as synonymous with Netherlands. Is that boorish of us?

 

No offence taken, i just want to explain and i am not a Hollander haha.
Many do not know even our neighbours the Germans do not know.

Tell the seller who used the word on the envelope: Scheemda, Holland. It does say Nederland on the stamp. Should we stop saying Netherlands? Looking it up I see that his village is in the province Groningen or at least there is one by that name there. I once was told that there were 34 states in the US that have a town named Springfield so I really have no idea now many places in another country share names. I learned long ago to be careful in such matters. I had a friend from Cornwall who strongly insisted that he lived in the UK but really hated the term England. By the way, I currently live about the same distance from Richmond, Virginia, that I was born from Richmond, Indiana. I suppose it is asking too much for namers of towns to be original.

I live in Holland ( south Holland) Leiden where Rembrandt is borne, but it is of course a part of The Netherlands.
Groningen is end of the world for me....LOL.
Indeed dollar to stong for me to buy from Middle East so I stick to Europe...

New York state once was part of the 17th Century New Netherlands.. I think they traveled through the Holland Tunnel to get here

As micbraun wrote, we do. Then again, since "Holland" is used even in NL as a synonym of the entire country fairly often (OK, in Friesland or Zeeland I'd be more cautious), we simply adopted that usage. I may also say England or Britain when referring to the UK. Heck, the Finnish call Germany "Saksa", as if all this was Saxony ...
