Here is one more old coin I found in the bottom of a box of old coins. I was wondering if any one has any ideas about this old coin. Thanks, Ben
It's not a coin but a reckoning token / jeton / rechenpfennig, made by Hans Krauwinckle in Nurenberg, Germany (you will see large letters HK obverse) These items were very roughly made from base metal for the purpose of counters / market tallys and in conjunction with a checker board to count with. The components in use were basically the european equivalent of an abacus. Your jeton is not in the happiest condition i've seen and I suspect you would struggle to raise the price of a cup of coffee if you were to present it for sale on the open market. However meter that against the fact that the reckoning counters of Nurenberg is not exactly my strongest knowledge base. Ian
This piece is made by Hans Krauwickel and described in Mitchiner p. 460 and Barnard pl. 31 no 44 http://rechenpfennig.webs.com/
