Howdy folks! I don't post much because I haven't had much coin action. Recently I went to a bank and noticed they had these on the counter. The teller told me she had more but she was saving those for herself... I didn't want to say anything since I wasn't even a member of that bank, just had to deposit money for a friend. She was generous enough to let me run (believe me, I ran) to the ATM and pull out a 20 to exchange. John
Congrats on a great score! I always try to keep a nice new Benjy on me in case this type thing happens.Recently got a bunch of FBL Franklins and other proofs from a jewelry store that won't deal w/coins and am hoping to get a nice capped bust half dime too.The c-note triggers the "sell impulse" and closes the deal quickly before the rest of the crows in line want in.....
Makes me want to retire from my current job and get a teller job at a bank. The wife would be a bit pissed though!
Good (great, actually) for you, but that teller may be walking on very thin ice. Nearly all banks have a policy that "tellers are not to be collecting coins while on duty."
Yes, I did think that while I was talking to her but then again, I'm not a member of that bank and she could've easily pulled that card and gave me nothing. I'm grateful John
Mine wasn't rolled, but it was in a stack that I bought at an estate auction. Everyone was buying melt value - and not even looking at the coins. I saw this one among some fairly worn ones. This was a stellar find. I paid $190 for a lot of 20 coins - plus 12% premium and was ready to go farther. People laughed at me. This one I sold for $700 all by itself. And then I laughed. I sold it at an auction, and I'm 99% sure the guy that bought it worked for HA. If restoration did me justice, I'm guessing an MS63 or even 64. Other than the scuff on the cheek - it's gorgeous! I probably should have sprung for restoration - because it came back graded as uncirculated. 1905-P Barber Half.
