Take a look. 1970 S quarter. Also appears slightly on quarter dollar and united states on reverse. Any value?

    It's probably MD (machine doubling).

Thanks all. I have such a hard time telling the difference between doubled die and machine doubling. I looked at what seems to be hundreds of examples and in most cases they look the same to me! What gives it away??

A lot of these have that on the reverse lettering like that. When you notice it for the first time, it is interesting. Just look on the Internet on the differences between the two. There are basic diagnostics, and they're really not "rocket science." You'll see.

I promise, in most cases, when you find one you will know immediately. There's such a difference in hand. Online images are great, but when the real doubling shows up under a loupe, there will be no question. Hang in there and keep looking!

I couldn't agree more. That first one you find will jump right through your loupe and poke you in the eye and you'll probably never need to ask again.
