    Hi All:

    Neat resource!

Wondering if someone might have some knowledge.

Haven't been up on Numismatics since I was a kid so my resources are limited and out of date.

I recently aquired (spare change) a 1977 Washington Quarter with a very strange defect.

Looks like George's ear was struck twice. He's got one nearly normal ear in the right spot and another very prominent (raised a 16th of an inch or more) in the middle of his face.

The back of the coin has an odd indentation mirroring the extra ear.

    Might I have a treasure ?

    Thanks in advance.

Error coins might be worth a few bucks, you'd have to have someone who knows something about them take a look at it.

It could be a double die error. I'd say post a picture of it here, we do have some people with specialized knowledge of error coins who visit here regularly, I'm sure they'd know whether or not it was anything special if you could post a picture for them to look at.

It sounds to me like it's damage rather than a error, but like Peter says,it's hard to say without a picture. A doubled die is something totally different from what you discribe here. If you'd like me to take a look at it,how about going to Error World and posting your pictures and question, and we'll offer you an opinion on the coin. ~ Jim
