Just got back from the local goldbuyers, had a pretty good haul. Got a '21D morgan vam1Q pompadour T (R6)for $22, 10 merc dimes as follows 1916s,1917d, 1923s,1925d,1926p,1926s,1927d,1927s,1939s,1941s and the latter appears to have a nice die clash on reverse(photo included)$1.70 each. A nice '42p war nickel for a $1.00 Oh yea and a partial set of jeffs in a folder for $12. Now i get to go through and check for varieties! If you are not familiar with the pompadour T morgan check out the 2nd T in states. Its a pretty good one. And the clashing on the merc dime is on the bottom on both sides of the reverse. Thanks 4 looking!
Thanks tommy, now i just hafta take a crash course on mercury dime grading. Some of these are better dates, the funny thing is, i thought the 1923S was gonna be the best one, but so far the '25D and the '26S appear to be the best of the group.
I like the Merc clash. While raising my family I ended up accumulating for 30 years rather than collect as I should have. I have so many coins to go through it's going to be daunting. Most of my sets, started when I was kid have never been checked for anything but dates as I got them. I knew nothing about varieties at all. Many of them I got from trading stamps for coins in the mail through ads in Numismatic News and other coin and trading "zines. I surely hope I got a few goodies stashed in those albums somewhere.
Well, it does sound daunting, but its definitely a good problem to have. Im sure theres quite a few goodies in there. Altho i have cherrypicked quite a few, atleast half of my finds were later on while looking the coin over at home, under good lighting in a comfy chair.
