I've done a little research, and found that uncirculated Silver Eagles will not be graded MS70 by PCGS. The rumor I heard was that it is due to a possible discoloration that may occur years down the road. Apparently they have to buy back the coin if it becomes discolored in the future, which these coins have a habit of doing. There is little to no difference in prices to buy PCGS or NGC coins, so is there any reason to not send them into NGC? Thanks in advance for your opinions, you guys are a great help on here.
If you think you might have an MS70, and plan to resell it soon, NGC might be better and hope for the better grade that PCGS won't assign. If you plan to keep the coin, I wouldn't think it would make much of a difference. In fact, if you plan to keep the coin, you can save money by not slabbing it at all. Just put it into an airtite and enjoy it. Use the slabbing fee to buy another coin.
Well, I got four coins and a prayer. If one would come back a MS70, I'd pay for the rest, and get my wife off my back for spending a bunch of money.
