My wife got a missing clad( I am guessing) South Dakota quarter. Front side......D mint.Had it weighed at a jeweler.weighed in at 4.6grams. I am not a coin colllector So I am asking for help. IS it a normal thing or a rarity? Thanks for ANY imput that you have. Thanks, Bilvis
Howdy Bilvis - Welcome to the Forum !! Based on the weight it sounds like a genuine missing clad layer coin. Depending on condition it could be worth a few hundred dollars.
Sounds like you've got a fairly rare and valuble error. Did a quick eBay search and found a couple modern quarters with missing clad layers: 2005 - $122 with 3 days left. 2001 - $250 Buy It Now. How much you'll get for it really depends on the condition of the coin.
also on where you sell it. If you are going to sell it, call many dealers first. Even call ones so far away, you know you probably won't go there, because their feedback could be instrumental in you getting your fair share.
