I just won a couple of coins & thought I'd share. I'm more of an ancients guy, but when I saw these I really liked them so I bid. 1907 20 Francs, NGC MS64... Egypt 10 Millieme 1957 ANACS MS63... -
Hmm, that's strange they load for me. Try these... I really like the Franc. I might have to look into getting some of the other designs.
Love your coins and I can understand why you really like the franc since that is the bulk of my collection.
With the buyers premium I paid $190. Did I do ok? I've been looking around & decided I'll have to get at least one 20 Franc Angel too.
at apmex you can get them for 129.00 USD http://www.apmex.com/Category/158/Gold_European_Coins.aspx Plus shipping you can get the angels for the same price.
I'm not the best one for advice on price. Those coins look mint to me but my eyes are not trained like others here which is why I depend on a few select dealers. My rule of thumb for a coin that looks like yours is not to spend more then 20 to 30 dollars over the spot price of bullion per ounce divided by the amount of gold in the coin itself. Your coin is .9000 Gold and weighs 1876 of an ounce. Or If it is a coin that is deemed to be rarer or a bit special then I just look at what the coin is going for by a number of dealers that are deemed respectable, figure that is the going rate and decide if I want to pay that much. One of these days I would like to spend a day at a coin show and then barter but till then this is the way I do it. If you feel you paid to much I am sure you can return it. For the more we save the more we can spend. If you feel you got the going rate but not the best price I would keep the coin and not sweat it. But look into it by grade. Some sites are Panda coins-expensive side, Clark Smiths' www.coinvault.com however be careful with this one thru and let me know. It has been a few years since I bought that type of coin. My over all view on getting a good price but not worrying about getting the best is sumed up with: A coin can give you years of pleasure while a meal out will only last a few hours and end up being flushed away the next day. No one ever wonders if they got the best price on a 15 dollar meal that they spent 50 to 60 dollars for so even when we don't do our best with the coins we still do better then if we went out for some steak and potatos. Sorry I couldn't give you more exact information pretaining to your coin only how I do it in my amateur way.
I'd say you paid about $25 - $30 too much for the two coins. Not bad, but you can do better if you watch for them.
Well, I'm ok with that. I can look at 100 of the same type of coin & only find a couple that catch my eye just right so I don't mind paying a little extra now & then. Thanks
The Egyptian coin is really a pretty nice one. These are much tougher than most collectors or Krause would indicate. Funny that I never noticed the idealized and inaccurate portrayal of The Sphinx. I've been looking at hundreds of pictures from all different angle and that one ain't even close to any of them.
