You are calling me defensive?:stop: In your last post you resorted to an ad hominem attack on my intelligence and a condescending post about what I collect. All I did was set the record straight. And don't act like your intent was anything but to disparage me and my collection. The fact is that I have an outstanding collection of coins that I share with the world. We don't even know if you collect coins, but you sure are quick to criticize others and their collecting habits. Furthermore, I know I have you on the ropes when you pull out the poker attacks.

I have already responded to that post, and it was very accurate. If you want some more, I will tell you that the reason you gave for dipping is an absolute lie. The "doctors" were not "doctors", they were dealers and it was completely acceptable to dip a coin. And they didn't do it because they considered toning environmental damage, they did it because they could make more money by dipping the coin and artificially enhancing the appearance of the coin.

Do you consider toning environmental damage and what is your opinion of dipping coins?

Just wanted to share this. As stated earlier, I over payed for 3 coins just because I liked them. These coins were fabricated to be toned by the seller. Here is one of the descriptions.

" UNC PROOF SET COIN TONED ON BOTH SIDES WITH 1200 HUNDRED DOT SCANS PICTURES DO NOT DO THIS COIN JUSTICE THIS IS WITH A ****BRIGHT MIRROR LIKE FINISH****** ANY YELLOW COLOR IN THE PICTURES IS REALLY GOLDEN HANDLED ONLY WITH GLOVES THERE ARE *****NO CHEMICALS****** ON THIS COIN WHAT SO EVER. AN YES I DO DISCOUNT SHIPPING.THIS IS THAT COIN YOU CAN NOT STOP LOOKING AT THEY ARE DROP DEAD GORGEOUS PLEASE CHECK MY FEED BACK LET THE FOUR THOUSAND PLUS COIN COLLECTORS TELL YOU ABOUT THESE HEAT TONED COINS THANKS FOR LOOKING REMEMBER ONE THING WHEN BIDDING ON ANY TONED COIN THAT NO TWO COINS TONE THE SAME ONE OF A KIND"

I'm buying these for artsy reasons.... not really for coin collecting... but this seller clearly states they are heat toned. The seller goes by the name haleyschevy on ebay. Check out some of the coins they have made...

Oh they are. It's clearly written in the description. I'm buying them for decoration since they are cheaper than real graded coins and I won't care if they get stolen. Lol. I personally do not care for the mark ups on toned coins. I would much rather have a specimen of a coin that is as perfected as possible and as it was minted rather than the toned ones... however.... as long as people are buying they will keep making them and selling toned coins at higher premiums. I just wanted some cheap colorful coins that I wouldn't care to use for display purposes... so really even the toned coins made for art do have their own niche as much as I hate to admit it. Heck who knows.... maybe I'll quit being lazy and just make my own. Lol

I don't think you know what trolling means....

Since you seem to lack the ability to understand English let me make myself more clear. In coin collecting there are many different types of coins. Since you are trolling, you may have failed to notice this particular thread is about toning. By clear price, I mean that there should be a standard as to what increases or decreases a coins value and by how much based on rarity, grade, etc.... I also don't think a coin that can be easily alterered by toning should be worth more than a perfect specimen. That is just completely silly to me.... Toning is not a mint error. It is an error due to environmental damage. This should decrease the value.... however since we have no standard people price them for outrageous amounts and make them out to be worth more than they should be for collecting purposes.

You are a provocative bugger, aren't you? I'm not lowering myself to your inane level just to reply to this. You have a great day, poker star.

We do. It's called the free market. If someone asks too much for any coin then it doesn't sell. Very simple system. As long as there are no fraudulent claims made people decide via the free market what a coin is worth.

People have been pricing untoned coins for market unreasonable amount forever. Just look at the eBay bin coins. Many are way too high for their market value. do you have a solution for that issue?

You are right they have. Doesn't make it right. For wealthy individuals I'm sure it doesn't matter. For the average Joe though it can be a huge turnoff. I'm not going to pretend to know all the answers but I do believe if the dealers, mint, tpgs.... etc came together they could formulate a more beneficial system so that more people would get involved and not be turned away.

You mean that dealers, the U.S. Mint, and the grading services should collude with each other to set prices? Really? I am sure that will go well.

Yep I do mean that. And then I think they should formulate a way to reach out and get more involved. The mint has several kits to get people started.... the dealers and everything after buying the first kit tend to scare people away.

The result would be much higher prices, obvious conflicts of interest, fraud or constructive fraud, and oh yeah, collusion is illegal.

The grading services already set the prices, each one has a published price guide. What more do you want?

Well I think anyone with half a brain could figure out this is not about me since I still collect and buy coins. I think anyone with a knowledge of the coin industry and knowledge of the lack of collectors as the generations proceed would be able to tell this is about something bigger.

    V. Kurt Bellman Yes, I'm blunt! Get over your "feeeeelings".

So, all you toning enthusiasts, do you consider this coin attractive? Up front? I do not.
It is an 1884-CC in a GSA holder and sold today at SilverTowne auction.

Oh, NGC MS65. You can look up the price realized, or a few can post guesses and I'll post it here later.
