This is Tranquillina from Deultum. Dealer wasn't for sure but I am, so I got it for $15. It's also a slot filler for Tranquillina for me. If all goes well, will take me up to 99 Roman Imperial rulers. This is a Provincial sub filler. I know very little about these Elam coins. I don't have one so I got this one for $10 which is somewhat cheap. Dealer says it could be Kamnaskirid or Arsacid dynasty. THE SELEUCID EMPIRE OF SYRIA, ANTIOCHUS IX, 114/13 - 96/95 BC, AE18 MM, 5.43 GRAMS,DIADEMED BEARDED HEAD OF ANTIOCHUS RIGHT, REV WINGED THUDERBOLT , CONTROL MARK IN OUTER LEFT FIELD CORRESPONDS TO SNG SPAER # 2681 Dealer's attribution. Another cheap $10 coin.
I saw that Antiochus IX and thought it was a great coin for $10. The thunderbolt and lettering on the reverse is very sharp and well-centered, and there's enough of the portrait left to make a complete coin, and clean surfaces all around. I'm glad it went to a good home.
I saw that Antiochus IX coin over a year ago and it sat there for quite sometime, I believe. As long as the coin arrives, it definitely has a home. I thought the others were fairly decent deals as well. Even in low grade, those Tranquillina Deultum coins ain't exactly common. The Elam coin I think is decent as well, which led me to the decision of getting them.
Thanks guys for the good comments. Today is also my birthday, I just turned 46. I'm hoping that someone here might give me more information about that Elam coin, if they have a book with those in it. Bing taught me well when I first started collecting ancients with the bargain and negotiating prices. But he still gets some of the best deals. Haha
Happy Birthday Gil, i though you were one of those young pups, but it looks like your an old fart like Mr.X6. JK,JK... keep up the good work!
I like the ANTIOCHUS IX ... I have a few Antiochus examples, but none from "IX" Collecting a coin from each of the Antiochos-gang would be a cool side-collection
