So I picked this up at the Baltimore coin show for $0.50(I'm a big spender...). I'm wondering if the chop mark is legit to the time or if someone added it afterwards. Any thoughts?
I think someone was trying to make their own version of a chopmark. Note how the impressions overlap. This indicates that separate impressions of the same shape were used to form the whole thing. A true oriental chopmark would all be incorporated into one symbol. PMD! Chris
nope. Which is what had me curious about it in the first place. Why would there be chop marks on a copper/nickel coin.
