I tried this under the world coins forum, without success. I found this under medals on ebay. Although calling it a medal is a stretch, it still is intriguing. The clock face has "Royal Bavarian Beer Clock " and the back has "Hops and Malt, God preserves(?)" . Does anyone know the meaning of the 16 hour clock? Thanks
I don't know anything about this clock, but crazy King Ludwig II or Ludwig Otto Friedrich Wilhelm of Bavaria once declared Beer was food since it contains all the ingredients for bread.
I don't know anything about the clock either, but I agree with 'green 18'....being mostly of German ancestry myself, I'm sure they felt 12 hours wasn't enough time to drink beer....LOL At least I don't --especially during football season...
Found this link to a similar medal, describing it as a satirical early 20th c. medal: http://www.sixbid.com/browse.html?auction=328&category=5611&lot=271295 My guess is the 16 hour clock bit is along the lines of the 'beer o'clock' joke clocks we have in the U.S. - like green said, more time to drink beer.
Why only sixteen hours? Can't drink beer the other eight hours? Priorities, my friends...can always doze with a cold one in front of you. Bruce
I don't think that it's a clock ... I think it's more along the lines of a golf stroke-counter?!! => once you get to 16 beer, it's time to find your pants and go home!!
