Looking through ebay, founds this guy. Coin is a fake, and the auction says to contact him before paying. It is illegal to sell this kind of fake, so maybe he is trying to sell them without ebay knowing? Total ripoff. http://www.ebay.com/itm/US-1908-Ind...433?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2edfc61591
I was going to ask the same. The only thing I can see is a ring around the one side that looks amiss. The pics are not good enough for me to say it's fake. You should ask why he wants a contact before sale. Maybe it's a legit request?
Hah. I looked at it and didn't notice it was a $25 BIN at first. I have to admit, I don't have enough experience with these coins to tell it's a fake. Was there any giveaway other than "it doesn't look right"? Edit: @tommyc03 posted the one thing I saw that was off about the coin. I thought it might have been an unusual die crack.
No, it is 100% a fake, and not even a good one. I buy these all the time, so it is obvious to me. I have a hard time telling other kinds of coins are fake, but this is my specialty, so it stuck out like a sore thumb. Plus, I went ahead and bought one and paid. He then told me it was a fake, said this is why he said to contact him first, then asked if I still wanted it. I got my refund, then left a negative. What he is doing is selling fakes illegally.
I think it's important to address these issues directly with the seller before going off the deep end. Is it possible he meant to list as an auction start price and hit BIN by mistake? Maybe his request for contact first is legit? I don't know the answer to what you should do but I know I would ask him first before I reported him and got him into trouble without trying something else.
Ebay feedback 96%. That would raise a red flag for me also. Also, only 60 feedback. Lots of red flags.
Guys, look at his past listings and feedback. All he sells are fakes. Yes, at least he says they are fake (at least in some descriptions). My guess is ebay started removing his listings, so then he tried to sell them without saying they were fake in the auction. This is why he says to contact him first. I guess this is the most ethical way to sell fakes, but they are still illegal to sell. Deserves a negative to warn others in my opinion.
I fess up. I did not mention jwitten but did call him out on this. He wrote back in barely readable English it was a fake.
It did not say that earlier... looks like at least he is being a little more honest about it. STILL illegal though.
