I feel like this thread sums up all those other toning related threads and illustrates several points.

-Many people passed due to the label/color combination. This means that no one can REALLY tell if it was AT or NT

-PCGS' blessing means ALOT, albeit they themselves may not even be correct in calling this one.

-due to PCGS' blessing, the liquidity increased dramatically

-sheep go the way of the Shepard. This coin was questionable and semi-undesirable all the way up until it was in PCGS plastic, then look at the comments.

No, The coin was for sale at a local coin shop, and I contemplated it for my collection for months. My primary concern being in a ICG slab was if the coin was cleaned or not. I liked the toning, had an ok feeling that it was legit. I PM member that I respect here on Cointalk, and asked him his feelings on ICG and cleaned coins. He felt secure enough that if the coin was cleaned ICG would catch it. He was not secure if ICG would have an accurate graded. So then I came back to the toning, and felt I could live with it either way, as I really liked it for a toned Barber. I bought it, and then as time went on, I bought these two.

Now I had 3 Barber Half dollars and I wanted to free up some money so I listed the ICG Barber. That coin had zero interest for months, so I thought its a nice coin the one thing that is holding it back is the slab. So while looking through my personal database of toned coins I came across this one, which has that same battleship grey obverse with neon blue toning as well. Also the reverse shows more luster and has very little toning. So I became confident it would cross.

This coin I owned briefly and is graded by PCGS. So that is my story. A good portion of my coins I sell, I like, that way if I get stuck with it, It's okay.

This 1923 Mercury dime was for sale on cointalk, and also listed on Ebay for $110 by a member here. Nobody wanted it from cointalk, and nobody on Ebay would touch it. I paid $105.00 for it cracked it out, and sent it to PCGS raw. it came back same grade ms64 fsb. It sold as buy it now within 24 hours on Ebay for $172.50
