As a student of history, your post prompted me to seek more information on Cnut, Ancientnoob...........quite the interesting fellow. That's what I love about you ancient guys........you're always sending me on a new discovery mission. :)

Oh, beautiful coin too. And while I avidly collect US moderns and bullion I find that I must also agree with Dougs' post above.....

The coin was graded on the flip EF. I would have to agree, I don't think it looked much different then it did when it fell from the dies.

For anyone of Swedish descent, look up Jenny Nyström, 1854-1946, and you will find a superb artist and illustrator. She designed and painted hundreds of picture post cards and magazine covers of children and especially Swedish Christmas traditions, including portrayals of the juletomte.

Won't tell you what that is, read and find out. Her 1900s postcards are VERY collectible, I have 4 or 5.

The Byzantine(Eastern Roman)Emperors in Constantinople hired Viking guards, called The Varangion guard.700- 1100 AD.
The name Viking comes from a language called "Old Norse" and means a pirate raid, people who went off raiding in ships were said to be "going Viking"
My Grandfather came here from Norway settle in Washington and moved to Canada. my little brother went to Canada and see a 10x10 log cabin that my dad grew up. in the thirty's they move back to Everett Washington. i married a Norse woman, we all have axes and knives.:D

I have never seen a 1000-year old coin, nor do I collect them. But, this coin is extremely impressive looking and wonderfully preserved. Your photo really captures its history and beauty.
