Gitbud Naumann uses Fed Ex. Typically I have to wait much longer for coins from Europe that go by post. The OP coin came from Florida, so no long wait there.

Those are some sweet examples - I really think this type is undervalued. There are a lot out there but,the variety and the artistry cover so much territory I think there is a lot of room for growth both popular/value.

The examples with that high Hellenistic artistry or those with perfect patina are true treasures.

They are lovely little pieces - most collectors have at least one as a type coin. I'm struck by how obsessed Philip II's coiners were with the head-of-god/horseman types. They relentlessly repeated the theme in all denominations from gold to silver to bronze for over twenty years, including an unknown number of mints. The gods are invariably Zeus or Apollo, and on some gold and silver you get chariots.

If you're lucky and have a good eye, you might cherry-pick one of the club or thunderbolt types, but they don't make an appearance very often in respectable grades.

Wonderful assortment JA, they are stunning and filled with tremendous eye appeal...You seem to have an 'artists' appreciation of presentation...

Thanks Mikey! I like looking at sets of coins, so I occasionally put together composites.

JA, now I have to search my 'old' purchases from the very beginning of my initial collection---circa 1985---when i received my first Ancients as 'uncleaned coins', since i seem to recall a seemingly small non-descript bronze that had a Apollo-like portrait and a reverse of a horse...and possibly left-facing...but chipped and otherwise in about VG condition....

Well, that's one way to kill an hour or so LOL

Well, JA---I found it and it appears to be the more common right/right version you mentioned....not particularly 'nice' but ok and interesting...especially since it only cost me $2.00 about 30 years ago LOL

I will try to send a crappy cell phone photo so you can at least express an opinion 0330151316-00.jpg 0330151317-00.jpg

Probably true Bing....it was one of those 30 uncleaned for $50+ deals...and some were quite nice....Can't win them all

That's not Philip II. In fact, it doesn't look Macedonian at all. When you get a chance, take better pics and start a new thread to attribute it.

Sorry, I thought it looked vaguely like the type you were posting and discussing and I was curious if it was......

Nothing to be sorry about...There are many bust/horseman types in the world of ancient coins. That piece looks Roman Provincial or even Indo-Greek, but I can't tell without a clearer image.

Mikey Zee => your photos are a bit fuzzy (ummm, do I need to get your prescription to look at these properly?)

    :woot:

    ... just jokes ...

But yah, I can't really tell what I'm lookin' at, "yet" (sadly, I am also from the low-tech side of the group .... at times I think it'd be faster if I actually sketched-out my ideas, rather than try photo-shop)

=> yup, I'm Ye ol' Photo Shoppe

    ;)
