Peachy: I don't see what the bidder could do to you, you are being honest. In addition, truthful. Hmm.....it does seem rare, perhaps I'll bid myself. (nah, just kidding.)
Great auction Thats great, it's a fun read, informative, and I think needed to be done. I was amazed there is over 2oo people that have visited the auction page. Thats more visitors than I get on an auction for Au morgan!! Next I think we need an alphabet soup slab auction. Over the weekend I was doing a little Morgan shopping and was amazed what people will pay for a slabbed coin. It doesn't matter who slabbed it, they are selling high. In one sellers feedback, a lot of buyers commented on how bad the grading was on one particular brand of slab(I don't recall the name), one buyer even left feedback saying that thier graders need to go to lenscrafters!! Anyway, even with feedback like that the slabs were still selling well, Unreal.:hammer:
Just wanted to share some of the funny emails I have been getting for this auction. The current stats as of 8:30 pm MST are 438 views and 43 watchers. Here are some of the emails. don't think it's one of a kind, I found 2 just like it in the last 10 rolls I opened. I thought I was seeing things. Nice to know someone has a sense of humor! With all the error dollars currently listed on eBay how can you be sure this dollar has no errors? I also see that you do not accept PayPal on this item and it is therefore not covered by the eBay buyer protection plan. Would you consider taking PayPal if I buy this item? That way eBay would come to my rescue if it turns out this is a fake no error dollar and really has some sort of undisclosed error. Can you get this into a first day of issue holder? First strike?? First something??? Just wanted to share some of what puts a smile on my face with you. Michael
Michael, Love it! You should post some of those questions in the eBay listing. Other eBay users would enjoy the added humor as well! I see you are up to 3 bids. As you come down the stretch it will be fun to watch the bidding war . Thanks for sharing with us! Best Regards
Well the powers that be on Ebay have finally, after 5 days, come to the realization that my auction was miscatergorized. They then removed the auction so I guess it is officially over. I'm kind of sad I wanted to see how far it would go! Maybe I will post another one. Thanks for all the support and comments. Michael
I didn't get a chance to see your listing before it was removed, so I'd appreciate if you could post the content here. It shouldn't violate the rules since it's no longer a real auction. For my two cents, I think you are taking a risk of getting banned by ebay by posting a knowingly false listing and an even bigger risk if you post another one.
Not to stir the pot but my posting was not false. I was auctioning off a dollar coin with no error on it. The listing basically poked fun at all the current dollar errors by stating it had none of them. Just a pristine coin. Ebay had a problem with me selling a non error coin in the error section. I am pretty ticked about it actually. Still trying to calm down. I mean I want to write them back and complain, but I'm not sure if it is in my best interest to do so. Biting the hand that feeds kind of thing you know. If there were other auction sites I would probable tell them off. But they wouldn't miss me. Michael
I don't get why they would remove the auction for being miscategorized... why didn't they just change the category? I see auctions in the wrong categories all the time that don't get removed as long as the auction listing itself is otherwise correct (sometimes they'll just move it to the right category if they catch the mistake). It wasn't a false auction... he was selling an item that was exactly as described, a George Washington dollar without an error. Again if eBay's only complaint was that it was listed in the wrong category, they should have just moved it to the right one instead of removing it.
Perhaps eBay is making too much money from the listing and final value fees on the error auctions for the Washington Dollar that they did not appreciate the joke. In general, that Internet Auction Community has become increasingly full of itself. The way it glorifies its Paypal division in listings long ago crossed the line of "obnoxious" in my opinion. It was a very funny auction, PM; I looked at it when you posted on the Auction Listings board and I was all set to reply when I realized I couldn't! Thanks for making the exception to the rule also GDJMSP.
It's kind of hit and miss... I notice that sometimes eBay tolerates obvious joke auctions as long as it doesn't get out of hand... ever hear about the person who as a joke, listed the state of West Virginia for sale on eBay? Got to something like one and a half million dollars before eBay pulled the plug. Of course the seller couldn't actually deliver West Virginia to the winner. You could have delivered this non-error Washington dollar to the wiiner. I don't get why eBay made a big deal out of it, but their perogative I guess, it is their website and auction company. However had the auction ended... eBay would have got their listing fee and final value fee, and the buyer would have got exactly what was advertised in the listing, so other than being miscategorized, I don't understand what their problem was. Myabe they just don't have a sense of humor about this kind of thing.
Sorry if I mischaracterized your auction. I have yet to see what it actually said because it was removed before I had a chance. I'd still like to see it. I don't see why you can't post a replica of it here since it is no longer a live auction.
peachy: Darn, and I had it on my watch list for a last minute bid of $3,000,000! Wow, that was one rare coin! I wanted to snipe bid it.
