Need some help ID'ing the date/mint on this cent. Circulation find here. Usually my circ find Wheaties go into a group baggie unless there is something special about it in which case I set it aside. I must have set this one aside years ago and forgot all about it until I went through my collection again. Took a good look under a scope.

Terrible condition, but what do you see?

Tried to photograph it without glare, but had a hard time. So i took a few shots of the date/mint area

    HA! That's quite obvious.

I see the date of 1914. I know terrible shape right? But at least it was obtained for face value. My reason for this thread is....do you see a "D"?

    I'm leaning no...but wanted opinions.

1914, no D. Even if there were a D-looking blob there, it would likely be impossible to authenticate.

I don't know if it was vibes coming through the computer screen, but upon my first look I thought it might be a '14 as well. Rorschach in nature though......

That's why i didn't want to say what I thought it was and get some unbiased opinions. I think 1914 is pretty reasonable guess though.

As for the D mint...i don't see it either. Wishful thinking I guess.

Guess i can toss it in my group baggie of Wheaties

When I was in elementary school (60 years ago) we boys used to put a penny under our shoe and slide it back and forth on the concrete sidewalk as fast as we could to see how hot we could make it get. After having all the fun we could with them at recess, we could drop them into a gumball machine and get a couple of Chiclets on the way home. This looks like that is what happened to a couple of your pennies.

I definitely do see indications of wear in one direction that occured years ago. Interesting theory! thanks!
