I got $5 CWR cents this weekend and they were pretty much all copper Memorials (except for 35 cents worth of 1982s).

I guess someone got tired of hoarding copper cents recently. I'm holding on to them for the moment to decide if I want to start saving them again.

They are Washington Philly and Adams Denver rolls, as stated on the rolls themselves. They were sold by the millions to people who paid for them with credit cards and got points. WSJ had an expose on it.

Get a grey sheet (and subtract 10-20%) if you want to know what they will go for.

Maintain said, "Proofs only come from US Mint. What you probably find, are possible MS coins. Which if circulated, will show some kind of wear, under close scrutiny....".

I was just saying that they are proof coins-they have the S on them.

Proof coins don't come in rolls marked "D" or "P". You can continue to insist on it if you wish. Besides, the mint mark is on the edge, which you will not have seen unless you opened the rolls.

I think you guys are talking about 2 different topics. My post is about the 2 U S Mint $1 rolls I got from the bank, P & D. Somebody else is referring to a "S" mint mark.

All US coins only come from US Mints.

As others have said, sometimes proof coins get spent. If you find a nickel minted after 1970 with an S mint mark, it's a proof, regardless of its condition.

I'm with Jeff here. About 3-4 years ago I found a proof Colorado State Quarter in my pocket change. Kept looking at it and thought, "man that is way shiney." Took me about 15 minutes to get the brains to look at the mint mark.

Some of you may have heard of Demeter, the Greek goddess of the harvest. You may or may not have heard of Deminter, Greek goddess of CRH. Well, last night I made votive offerings to Deminter (as I do most nights) and it worked again!

I went to 6 banks today while waiting for a meeting. At the first bank, I got 6 rolls of halves. I did not find any silver but I did find ten very nice proof coins. Not a bad start, but I am really after silver.

A couple of banks later, I got $120 in customer wrapped rolls. The tellers were thrilled to get rid of them! I was thrilled to recognize three very old wrappers from a long time ago. I opened the newer looking rolls first. There was silver in almost every one! A total of twelve 40%ers.

Then I peeked at the first "old wrapper roll" and saw another 40%er staring back at me. I closed that roll and opened one of the other two old wrapper rolls. Skunk. I quickly moved on to the next old wrapper and found six 40%ers! But the roll I saved for last was the best...seventeen 40%ers! All in all I found 35 part silver halves in those twelve rolls. Add in one more from another bank and I found 36 part silver halves today. Strange that there were no 90%ers, but I'm not complaining!

Thank you Deminter! I will slaughter one fatted calf in your honor next week...

P.S. Please, please do NOT make your own votive offerings to Deminter. She has been very good to me and I do not want to divide her attention.

In the 1960's and 70's, a lot of people were not aware that the 1965-1970 halves contained silver, but they hoarded the 1964 and older ones.

I did the same thing with a CT proof. I pulled it out of my change and thought "too bad this thing is slightly circulated because it's super proof-like." Then I noticed the mint mark...

Did a small amount of nickel hunting a couple years ago. Didn't find much. A well worn 26 or 7 buffalo, 3 worn war nickels, and 3 slightly off center--nothing worthy of any premium, but enough to make them slightly interesting for me. I did keep all of the 1960 and earlier coins and finally today I decided to pick up the Whitman folder for them.

Great half dollar find today. One of the stops, the teller says "there might be silver in those rolls" He was right.

8 cwrs and about $10 in loose halves...

    7 90% franklins
    22 40% 1-'66, 12-'67, 3-'68, and 6-'69

    Best find in a while.
