I don't collect the uncirculated versions but I will get the proof with my silver proof set subscription.

Ugh. I did not care for the design candidates and I don't particularly care for the one that was selected.

The 2015 dollar skips a 100 years of Native American history, a sad commentary on what happens to indigenous people. Guess they should have eaten Lewis & Clark, rather than fed them, as depicted on the 2014 dollar.

Sorry but I too don't care for the design . I personally don't think it gives any tribute to the native American culture.
What does is their heritages , any nationally could work the high steel. In NYC or elsewhere. Just another bad choice by men of white European heritage .

I was always told that Native Americans had an uncanny ability to withstand heights......was told that at an early age when the Throgs Neck Bridge was being constructed back in the late 50's/early sixties. You've blown another myth that I've carried since childhood Paddy........:)

Sorry Ken but I personally just don't see what working the high steel has to do with coinage or native American Heritage . To me it was like duh... we need an idea.... how about .... OK that will work. Duh. To me it's a bad choice compared to other qualities the Native Americans have.
But again that's my take ....as for others they may like it.

Well, they did perform an spectacular service regarding the construction of bridges and skyscrapers. I agree that other feats and contributions could been spotlighted but the local lore regarding these fellows hails back to my childhood.......hence my high regard for the design.

Agree. Wasn't enthused about any of the designs. Seems we still don't understand Native American Heritage.

You know Ken it's just a matter of like and dislikes . Can't tell you how many times in an art gallery I've heard oh my 5 year old could do better than that....and we are standing in front of a Picasso.
Most modern coins I'm not a huge fan. As for comm's I prefer the older ones. I'm a huge fan of art deco and classic coinage .
I'm also like nature coinage as long as it's done well. Meaning something that looks realistic not like a cartoon .
For some reason to me the US Mint is missing the boat on a lot of its design .
I see Canada and other countries putting out for the most part" not always" better quality as far as composition .
I do have some of the Native American dollars. But this is one that I will pass on. The other designs to me better depict the true Native American experience .

I also notice this particular design completely lacks any Mohawk cultural elements--it could be of anyone. This is akin to coining a "commemorative" about Chinese railway workers in the blandest visual terms--it says absolutely nothing about their culture. So I would prefer a coin honoring the native "code talkers" during WWII--at least their language plays a large role in their service during the war.

Finally, these 'design-by-committee' minting projects have produced some real turds of numismatic art--the 3/4 presidential portraits (a very bad idea in low relief) are just one of many outright disasters. It may be because of the 11 members, there's just "one specially qualified in the medallic arts or sculpture"--the rest may be easily tone-depth when it comes to aesthetics--or culture, apparently.

Yeah-- both Australia and Canada have regular issues depicting native animal species that are quite stunning--why not the US? I don't understand why US coins focus so much on politics, particularly presidents...when Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, et al. would be aghast to know their likenesses were put on coins, like their contemporary King George III. :p
