I recently bought a near complete dansco book of Franklin halves, mostly assembled/complete. Many showed very nice mint set tones of blue/red/gold/purple. Many would have not thought twice about these as they are not super monsters or anything of that nature and the Franklin series seems to be a tad overlooked among most collectors. I sent the coins to get some photo time from Geekpryde and some went to stldanceartist. (These two do amazing quality work, highly recommended, honest and quick turnarounds.) The photos came out great and I fell for these run of the mill coins with nice color. I knew I would show a few out of this lot some love and have them encased in a plastic tomb forever. I have only sent coins to NGC during my short spell in the numismatic hobby. I find their slabs more visually appealing and consider the grades to be a bit more strict on average. Then I recived a email from PCGS that 5 trueviews were being offered. I figured it was about time to join this service as certain coins clearly do better in pcgs plastic and the trueviews were calling my name so why not use that as a excuse! After joining I submitted my order of 5 coins/economy and my free trueviews, please! I settled in for the long haul. I had heard many horror stories of how long PCGS takes for grading. To my surprise I had a mailed notice 8 business days from my received package date...8 DAYS! All coins came in where most said they would. MS64 All in all I was very surprised and pleased. I will most certainly be a return customer when needed. Although I am still partial to NGC, I found it interesting to have a positive experience posted vs another bashing of a TPG. First off I must give massive credit/props/thumbs up/golf clap to Matt aka Geekpryde. After sending this coin in for him to photo he noted the FS-401 Bugs Bunny Features. PCGS agreed and actually just posted the trueview on their coinfacts site! Here are the others in no particular order. Hope you enjoy!
I love the look of PCGS True Views, but I recently had a return on a toned washington 25c. The buyer said the coin didn't look like the True View. In my opinion, they do often look better than the actual coin in hand.... sometimes.
Those are attractive coins and attractive photos. The coins themselves are pretty average, with average toning - attractive, but common. Truviews are often cartoonish, especially with toned coins - many photographers do better for cheaper.
Those are all attractive coins! Me likey! Why did you send them in to a TPG service, given that you thought they were MS64's? You're not gonna' get your money back and you've messed up what I'm sure was an attractive group of Frankies in the Dansco.
Thanks, I sold the Franklin album for a Nice profit after pulling the best toners. So everything else is gravy... Originally these were sent to get photos of and were going to be kept raw as the cost of grading would = or exceed the current market value. The FS-401 1954 got discovered during being photographed. I knew it needed to go in and get slabbed so i filled the submission with the others to get the free true views. It alone will pay for the cost of grading. Although i plan to have these in my collection for a while so im happy with eating the tpg cost for the knowledge of there protected and labeled/graded (like the rest of my keepers) in case something happens to me.
