1972 cent Double die or MD?

    I believe what you're seeing is an example of the "master doubling" so common that year.

    That coin is a true doubled die, but it is the master die doubling of 1972. This means that roughly half (maybe as much as 60%) of all 1972s exhibit this doubling. It also covers all mints (P, D, & S). It so common no premium is associated with it.
