Another company to stay away from who does not know squat about coins. Although I regularly buy electronics and gadgets from them they are walking in the proverbial gray area. No mention of copy or replica, just a "tribute". And how about Americas most beloved "dollar" coin? It's a barber half dollar. And the set is silver plated with a copper core. "Silver Clad "Proofs" come in "Uncirculated" condition?
Look at the picture in the ad, you will see COPY between the wreath and left wing of the eagle. (viewers left)
Yeah, I see it in Jeff's pic, but not the OP's pic. Whew, that is pretty danged atrocious looking. The sad part is to think of how many of these will be brought into coin shows as "grandpa's treasures" in the future just to be told its worthless junk. Then, of course, the family says "all coin collectors are just thieves".
On Jeff's it is between the right wing and the wreath, in the picture in the ad it is between the left wing and the wreath
Well, if they send me a 1915 Barber half for $29 I would be fine with the silliness of the ad's hype.
Not according to the suit which was brought up in this thread over on the CU Forum: http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=26&threadid=924970&highlight_key=y This suit involved Silver Bullion Rounds.
So... what company is it? Also, with "offerings" such as these, I would be more concerned with wide-eyed adults staying away than I would with YNs.
I saw a set of the 5 "dollars" at a coin show; you had to wear sunglasses to look at them. And that was indoors.
The ones that sold for $90 + $10 were sterling silver, i.e., glorified "rounds". from listing: Questions and answers about this item Q: Are the coins copies? A: Hello, Yes. They are copies of rare date coins and are 1oz sterling silver each. Best regards, Nicole Mar 16, 2015 Q: HI THIS ARE NOT AUTHENTIC BUT ARE THEY MADE OF SILVER..THANKS PATRICK A: Hello, These coins are 1oz of sterling silver each. Thank you for your interest in our auction. Best regards, Nicole
...aaaaand that's where I believe the seller is LYING THROUGH HER TEETH. Or, to make a more generous assumption, "mistaken". They're silver-plated trash; in fact, the ones I have are among the poorer examples of silver-plating I've seen.
My general rule is to never buy coins from anybody who advertises on TV or in a national print channel. Even the ones that aren't total bottom feeders pushing "subscription" programs or plated junk like this are overpriced. If you follow this rule, you won't ever buy anything from the likes of these guys.
