Oh Boy! The State Quarters Collection is for collecting enjoyment and has little to no value over face value plus possibly the holder the set is in. I don't see these escalating in price for possibly another 100 years or so since they were produced by the millions and saved by the millions. Attrition will claim a lot of the coins over the long run as folks will look to "cash in" and end up actually losing money. Especially for US Mint purchased products which were sold at a premium of at least 10 cent per coin. HSN and the other coin TV Hucksters would plate these in various metals and get even more for them. Naturally, plating a coin literally KILLS its collectible value. The bottom line is that if everybody has one then nobody wants them and the price plummets to face value. This includes the ability to assemble sets from US Mint Sold Rolls.
I have the complete set, P&D, in 3-ring binders with stamps and all kinds information. I got them from my LCS for face value and he threw in the nickel book. The poor lady who bought them originally paid $14.95 PER PAGE!!
I feel sorry for the lady that got hosed, but sweet pickup for face. I collected stamps until they all went under water. Yep, I was once a philatelist.
I hope my kids can learn something from it but I know it's only worth about what I paid. Still I'm quite happy that I got them for that price.
I've learned more about the history of the states, territories, and national parks from these quarter series than what I remember from my public education. I've had a lot of fun and quality time with my kids filling our whitman albums from circulation, teaching them about the histories and numismatics in general. Priceless! For some reason, the tooth fairy also has always brought the latest, most unusual, or hardest to find items to our home, real conversation starters. Market value, shmarket value, bah.
I don't think we got an answer here. What do you mean by a full set? Does this include proofs and silver proofs?
I think that depends on the collector. Some will only collect the circulated version while others will collect the circ's with the 'silvers' and the proofs, while still more will also include the 'satin' finishes as well as the circ's. Just a few possibilities......
