This 1943 with the missing number 4 is common in these steel cents. It is caused by a Struck Through Grease. They have been a few posts about this same Cent. Value.. about $1.00-$2.00. Nice Find! Like you asked "a plugged die" yes plugged with grease buildup!

Not a Zincoln, but a Steely.
Zincolns only came into existence in 1982.

Thanks my confusion is due to the spot in my 7070 album where it calls for a "zinc" 1943

What about the 1943 copper zinc coated cent?

They are steel planchets, with a zinc coating to keep them from rusting. Just like galvanized nails. Steel with a zinc coating to prevent rusting.

The zinc never covered the edge, though.

I refer to the Zincolns in the 82-forward cents because they are mostly zinc. On the 1943's I call them steelies as they are mostly steel.

Your avatar (as well as your post quoted above) gives the impression that you think yourself smarter and better than everyone else. I agree with @EagleEyez. You may be amused, but I'm sure there are many more here that are not.

When you use derogatory terms to describe the developmentally disabled, or any other group of people, you reveal a lot about your own character. Your personal insult directed at me is not welcome.

There's no need for this. Reported as a personal attack.
