its missing part of the in and the g where its says in god we trust to me it doesnt look scraped off any ideas????? Thanks guys
Yep. Those were knocked off. Probably the victim of the fingers of a coin rolling machine. That's one of the most damaged areas by rolling machines. They can shear the letters completely off the face of the coin.
I agree with the guys.. PMD Post Mint Damage. The quarter has been in circulation so long that you can't see the scrape or damage because it probably wore away.
If you like quarters, look especially close at the 80's-90's as there are a lot with die cracks on the left wing on the reverse.
We do see a lot of damaged coins. I take it as a good thing. The more we see the more we learn. Years ago, most folks didn't have someone close to ask. I know I saved a lot of stuff thinking it had some type of error value. I'll take a half a cent.
