image.jpg Going through some bank rolls today. Found a 1971 D, with an apperant misalignment of the hub. The rim is off center. On the obverse picture provided, hopefully you can see it. The left side of the rim, is "thicker", than the right. Vise versa, on the reverse. Can any one tell me if this is indeed an error coin? Thanks!

That is caused by a slightly misaligned die. Those are very common, and not worth a premium unless they are misaligned enough to cut into the devices.

Checked in Red Book. Correct. Usually at least 10%. If some one can't see an error easily, usually not worth that much. People like to See it..... Thanks!

What Paddy was getting at when he asked to see the reverse of this coin is that if the misalignment is only evident on one side, then it's a misaligned die. If both sides show the misalignment, then it's an off-center strike.

I see. But still not off enough,to warrant any further attention either way? 10% or more rule?

No problem. I collect Cents from the early 70's such as your example. There are Off-Centers, Misaligned Dies, Finned-Rims and Broadstrikes. Just wanted to help a bit more but we are kind of wasting time with so many posts. :meh:
